5 Simple Ways to Get a Jumpstart on the Summer Body You’ve Always Wanted

Look, we’re in April already. The first three months of the year have flown by so quickly. Spring is here and Summer will be in your face before you know it.

I know you’re probably looking forward to it too. Everyone can enjoy a long sunny day. But there’s one problem.

You still have that spare tire from Christmas. The holidays are always a great time, you get to bond with family and relax a bit. But doesn’t come without a cost.

Between the big meals and the endless desserts your pants don’t stand a chance.

The shorter and darker days of winter don’t foster your ability to stay active either. Your activities tend to match those of a bear in hibernation. And now comes the time when you have to come out of the cave.

How are you going to feel comfortable taking the kids to the beach during summer break if you have to wear a big t-shirt when you’re in the water?

Don’t Make It Harder

I know you’re probably looking down, thinking about all the hours you’ll have to spend to shed the winter weight you’ve gained and get the body you want.

Not to mention the intensity. You’ll probably have to be dripping in sweat from session one to make a good dent.

But it’s hard to jump into an intense exercise routine like that, especially cold turkey. Just the thought of it is intimidating. It almost makes you want to pick out a really nice t-shirt to match the swimsuit you’ll be covering it with.

But you can’t do that. You don’t want to go all the way to the beach just to hide in the sand. You have to get a jump on shedding the pounds.

And the best way to do it is to start simple and build on from there. Not jumping into something too strenuous will increase your chances of continuing on and achieving the bikini body you crave.

Even with these little steps the weight will start to come off, setting you put perfectly to take it to the next level as time goes on.

Before you know it, Summer will be in full swing and you’ll be the most excited one in the family for the 4th of July beach weekend.

So start simple now so you can end strong.

1. Get another glass of water

See this here, we’re starting out with the easiest option. You’d be amazed how just increasing your water intake can help when you’re trying to lose weight.

Staying hydrated in general is important but when you’re working out and trying to lose weight it’s essential.

Consuming more water aids the whole process when it comes to your fat burning potential by giving your metabolism a boost. Drinking more water increases the amount of calories you burn.

Also, most of the time you tend to overeat because you’re confusing thirst with hunger. Well, this will put an end to that. Taking in the additional fluid will satisfy the thirst.

Additionally, if you drink a glass of water before eating you’ll notice your food portions start to diminish because you’ll be eating less. And you know what that means, lower numbers on the scale.

2. Get up off of that thang

Doesn’t just the sound of that lyric make you want to dance?

Come on, you remember the days when you were more active. I’m sure there was some sport or physical activity that you enjoyed that you could do now.

Did you enjoy shooting hoops with your kids when they were younger? Or maybe it was tennis with a friend? Whether it’s any of these, gymnastics or ice skating from your youth, dust off your gear and get out there.

When you’re trying to lose weight picking up an old favorite is a great way to shed some extra pounds. The change will be night and day compared to your current routine, so you should be able to see some great results.

3. Be a little childish

You might not have been very athletic throughout your life, but you can’t tell me you haven’t ridden a bike. Riding a bike is like an essential element of childhood.

It’s the first set of wheel you ever get behind, not counting the big wheel from when you were two years old.

Riding a bike is a good way to get around and a simple, yet unique way to get some exercise. You get to experience the outdoors, which you tend to neglect stuck behind a desk all day.

One of the best parts about biking is the intensity is all up to you. It can be a crazy workout or just a nice, scenic way to feel the spring breeze. It’s all your choosing.

4. Stop driving by the gym

You’re probably going to have to do it anyway. Joining now will be a good way to ease into it. Besides, once you’re a member you’ll be more motivated to go since you’re paying for it.

If you stall further when it comes to joining you never will, and ultimately you’ll never workout the way you want to.

Moreover, if you join now you can build up your pace with it comes to how long you’re going to work out and what exercises you will do. The more space you give yourself the more you can adjust to it, building your momentum.

Sure you can always workout outside but you don’t want the weather to dictate your progress.

Summer is on its way whether you like it or not so you have to have a bulletproof plan. Being a part of a gym means always being able to make progress, even when it’s raining cats and dogs outside.

5. Eat healthy, no, really

I used to trip up so badly with this one. When I started to exercise even just a little bit I used it as a license to eat more sweets. I guess I figured that the extra activity would, at the very least, cancel out the brownies or handful of cookies.

If you’re trying to maintain your weight that might work, but when you’re trying to lose extra weight that doesn’t do a thing. In fact, it might have hindered my desire to work out at all.

I don’t think I have to tell you how eating healthy will aid in your weight loss goals. We all know it’s a smart move.

But I will say that you should be more conscious about the food you do eat. Make sure you’re eating the right things to fuel and help your body build on your workout. There are certain foods that prepare your body for a workout and others that help to build muscle and burn fat even afterward.

Eating smart and healthy is how you’re going to lose weight and start sculpting the body that you’ve been dying for.

Now You Can Get to It

Don’t wait until the last minute to get in shape for summer. The clock doesn’t stop ticking so it’ll be here in no time.

And let’s face it you don’t want to kill yourself exercising 3 hours a day just to fit into last summer’s shorts. You still have time to ease yourself into a manageable routine. I’m telling you, there’s no easier way to start than this.

This is just the way to get a jump on your weight loss and kiss that extra winter weight goodbye.

    Yes summer is right around the corner and a lot of us want to lose some inches.

    One thing that’ll help is to do a fun activity which goes along with your point of being childish. What better way to kick start the metabolism than by doing some physical activity that you enjoy.

    I think the most important tip is to control your eating habits and eat more healthy. I’ve noticed myself that when I limit my sweets which include fruit drinks and breads the inches start coming off within a week. I make up for it by eating more salads, nuts, and little meat.

      Yes, especially when you go into it with the mindset of having fun, not hard work.
      That’s a good point. Eating more veggies is a good idea. They tend to be the smallest portion on our plates when they should be a much larger part of our diets.

    Hi Lea! Yeppers I lost 10 pounds pretty quickly.. The main thing I did differently was just pay attention to my food sizes. I used to sit down and munch a whole bag of chips now I count out 10.. I also got rid of soda and now drink tons of water. I now have more energy to.. So walking and working out is now a breeze HEHE

  • It’s funny, just yesterday I started thinking it’s time to get back into some kind of exercise routine. I used to be pretty good about it but then I moved a few months ago, and got my first taste of real winter after living on a tropical island for most of my life. The exercise went out the window and the shorts and t-shirt were traded for sweats to try and stay warm! Great tips, thanks!

      Marquita, I do try to read minds lol. If you do like to exercise outdoors that winter can make it hard for you to keep a routine. I try to run with my dog in the summer, so every year it’s hard to get back into that since the winter break kept us inside. Hope you’re able to get back into it this spring 🙂
