Day after day it’s the same thing. And not even in a good way.

It’s the same crap. You’re stuck repeatedly doing things you don’t want to do anymore, but you have to.

You’re so sick of it. You can’t wait until the day it all changes. The day when your life is dramatically different, like the polar opposite of now.

Until then you just continue on.

But why really? You know what you have to change, you think about it regularly. It pops in your head whenever you think about all the crap you have to deal with.

There are even times when you’re so fed up with it all that you actually start to take action on that change, just a little.

Soon enough your anger fades, you become tired and the little that you were doing dwindles down to nothing at all.

Why It’s Not Working

You know that you want to make a change. You’re reminded of it almost every, single, day.

You’ve even tried to do a little something. But then just like that, in the blink of an eye you’re doing nothing again.

It just won’t stick.

Changing the way you do things, the way you live your life is hard.

I mean even changing something pretty insignificant is challenging. Once something becomes a natural habit to you, like the way you’ve been living your life, that’s difficult to shake.

But now we’re talking about something colossal, something that impacts your whole life. So doing a 180 isn’t exactly going to be a small feat.

Clearly what you’ve done in the past hasn’t worked so from now on you’re going to have to change your approach.

The way you went about it before continued to bring you back to where you were originally. You’re done being there.

And honestly, it makes no sense to leave there just to immediately come back. You’re just playing yourself.

Stop looping around in endless circles. You need a real course of action that’s going to get you from the start to the finish line.

After successfully making a huge life change you’ll be a pro. Every change you make after that will be a cakewalk.

But more importantly, you’ll finally be happy.

8 Steps to Be Incredibly Successful

1. Be clear about it

For the most part when you want something your idea of it is very general. It’s too vague to really sort out.

You just know the overall look of it. And that’s what you end up trying to chase.

But when you’re not clear on what it is you’re after you can’t really get it. It’s like trying to repaint the image from an inkblot test. You don’t really know what you’re looking at.

Dig deep and uncover exactly what you want, being as specific as possible.

2. Figure out why you want it

When your idea of your dream is vague your reason behind it can be just as vague, or nonexistent.

Sometimes you realize that you want things because other people do, because they seem happy. But it doesn’t matter how other people feel about what you want. What matters is how you feel about it.

Figure out why you really want it and make sure that it’s about you. You’ll learn more about yourself and become connected with what you’re after.

3. Develop a realistic plan

When things don’t work out the way you thought it’s because you didn’t have a plan, you weren’t being realistic or a combination of the two.

Having a realistic plan of action can save you a lot of disappointment and time in the long run.

We would all like to go from 0-60 in a single sweep but life doesn’t work like that.

Create a practical step by step plan and you’ll make progress, not excuses.

4. Believe in yourself

If you don’t believe you can pull something off then you never will.

There will always be something that pulls you back, keeping you from going forward. Even if it’s from within.

If there’s ever a time when you need to be confident in your abilities, this is it.

When you’re taking things to the next level your confidence needs to be at its peak.

Maybe you could even be a little conceited. J

5. Take it easy

I know you’ve wanted this for a long time. So much so that you can feel it.

And there are probably is so much more that you want to do. This would just be the beginning, the breakthrough that you’ve waited ages for.

You can’t rush things though. Take it easy and do one thing at a time.

Focus on one task. Do it right so you don’t have to do it again and you’ll be successful.

Besides, the last thing you need to be is overwhelmed after coming this far.

6. Don’t back down

Whether you tell them or not the people around you are going to see a change in you and what you’re doing.

Not everyone is going to understand it or agree with it. But don’t let that stop you.

They’re going to give you opinions you didn’t ask for and make comments you could’ve lived without. But don’t make your decisions solely on their feedback.

Remember why you’re doing it. And if there’s any merit in their concerns consider them and prepare for it but continue on as planned.

7. Get support

As I said, everyone around you may not be supportive the way you need them to be. That’s why it’s important for you to create your own circle of support.

Connect with at least one person who is supportive and can provide you with the encouragement you need.

You can do it all on your own but it’s easier when you have someone in your corner.

8. Do it every day

This is typically the biggest mistake.

When you’re trying to make a life change it has to become a habit. In order for it to become a habit, you have to do it daily.

Even if it starts out as a few minutes a day you have to get yourself used to it. That’s the only way you’re going to keep it up long enough to see progress.

Otherwise, you’ll miss a day here and there then you’ll forget about your plan altogether.

Make Your Life Changes Stick

No matter how fast you’re going, when you’re driving in circles you’re always going to end up in the same place you started.

It’s time to let go of processes and things that are making it harder for you to change. You want better for yourself, this is the only way you’re going to get it.

Put that dreadful lifestyle behind you starting now.

You can do it.

    Now this is and good post.

    There are times when you’re either tired of the routine or you’re just not getting anywhere with the same daily routine you have.

    So what do you need to do? You gotta change it up.

    I really resonated with #1, #2, and #7… You want to have much clarity of what you want to do, have your own reasons of why you’re doing it, and when push comes to shove you want to develop your own support circle.

    From my own opinion and experience, once you have these 3, everything else will be less of a challenge.

  • Well said Lea! For better or worse, I have a tendency to shake things up periodically just to keep myself from growing stale so change is a pretty familiar part of my life. I especially relate to your point on being clear about what you want. I was a life and small business coach for over a decade and answering that question is a real challenge for many people; in no small part because of course if you state what you want you might not get it and then you set yourself up to experience failure. It’s a self perpetuating prophecy in the making! Thanks for the inspiration and great advice.

    Well this one definitely resonates with me because I have someone in my life who is about as miserable as they come but she doesn’t realize that she’s in control of her life. She has had so much go wrong that she’s not even aware that she continues making her situation worse than believing that she can turn it all around.

    She definitely does not believe in herself and we all know just how hard it is to turn situations like this around. But it’s possible, I see it almost every day and I only wish I could get her to read this post and start absorbing this kind of information. Instead she would be upset with me because I just don’t think she’s open to this kind of help right now.

    You always have such great tips to help us with whatever situation we’re in at the moment. Your advice is spot on Lea so thank you for always being that beak of light to help us along.

    “Believe in yourself”… that is a huge one!!!!! So many are unable or unwilling to make the changes they need or want to make because they aren’t confident enough in themselves.

    Change is hard… I’ve been through it several times in my life but I know I have the support of my family. And when you mentioned support that one is vitcal!!!! Friends are great but family support is critical.

    Change at some point is necessary. Your post was insightful for me as someone who isn’t afraid of it and accepts the opportunities that can come with it!

    Those are great steps to take to change your life. I’m having to take things slowly because I just have so many things going on! I want to change my life (to have less going on) but the things I “have to do” pay the bills for the moment. That doesn’t stop me doing a little bit every day towards the long-term goal. So, it’s little and often for me ๐Ÿ™‚

    I love this post – stop to be dreamer, but be a doer.

    We can’t make people to change until that person sicks and tires of his current life.He must have the determination that he has pick himself up from every fall because obstacles and challenges are sure along the path

    Your 8 steps are all nice practical actions that any body can use to change his/her life to better level. I particularly love the last step that we have to do them every day. We can’t expect good result if we put so many gasps in between.

    To start off, the huge life change for me would be … consistency. Like real consistency. Consistency that won’t allow doubts, and won’t make me look back. Just simple consistency every day, like your #8 (which I loved!). It’s quite hard to explain, but quite easy to understand. ๐Ÿ™‚

    To me, #1 and #2 may arguably interchange, though. You know, the big question “Why?”

    #8’s gotta be my favorite, really. Doing the little things *every day*, which makes it all great, which brings solid results. ๐Ÿ™‚

      I see what you mean, it is debatable. But I can see them as two differest aspects. You’d be surprised how some people can be clear on what they want, being about to paint the perfect picture of it. But have no clue where it came from, like why they want it. They usually discover that they don’t want it anymore or ever really.

      I definitely hear you on the consistency thing. That probably is the biggest contributor for me in turning things around. You have to do it everyday, you can’t let it fall behind.
